About My Work

I’ll take you through how I approached one of my large sculptures from concept to end.

The beginning was my visit to an antique/collectible dealer near Lakeville, MN where I acquired the basic parts that were my inspiration.

The pieces were a two wheel wagon frame (in some disrepair), a cowling from an old lawn/garden tractor device and a tractor seat.  The items were scattered about the grounds, but as I looked around I could envision the pieces married together into a base for a sculpture.

I assembled those initial pieces with other found/acquired objects.  The progression of the piece is shown in the following two photos.

I repaired the broken frame, added the seat and tractor cowling, plus added the additional “finds” such as the steering wheel, gauges, a motor, hoses, etc.  The sculpture base was then complete.

The final step was to add the figure.  She was cut from 3/16″  and 1/8″ steel.  The edges were then ground and finished and assembled with copper wire anchored into oak pieces fabricated for hair.

The result is “Speed Racer”!
